The residency project “Developments in the Contemporary for the Italian Embassy and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing” presents the works created in Beijing by the artists Davide Bramante and Luca Pozzi, hosted at the Italy China Council Foundation Academy Art Center inside Raffles City Beijing, as well as in the spaces of the Italian Embassy and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing, on a curatorial project by Nuova Artemarea.

Born from an idea by the Ambassador of Italy in Beijing Massimo Ambrosetti, and coordinated by the Director of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing, Federico Roberto Antonelli, the project is curated by Guicciardo Sassoli de' Bianchi Strozzi, president of Nuova Artemarea, co-curated by Manuela Valentini and Ren Jingge, with the organisation of Caterina Feng of the Italy China Council Foundation Academy.

Now in its second edition following the Beijing residencies of the artists Enzo Cacciola and Vincenzo Mascia in summer 2025, the initiative unfolds through a series of selected residencies for Italian artists in Beijing, aimed at fostering the promotion of and dialogue between contemporary Italian art and the cultural context of the Chinese capital.

With the exhibition of Luca Pozzi and Davide Bramante the programme continues, broadening the languages, perspectives and intensity of the dialogue between the two countries.

The photographs by Davide Bramante (Syracuse, 1970), belonging to the series My own rave, are made using the technique of multiple exposure at the moment of shooting (not digitally). A working method that thus becomes an instrument for capturing the changing soul of places, from glimpses of Milan and Rome to the geometries of Florence, Bologna and Noto, up to the vertical pulsations of Beijing and Shanghai, which unfold into a single, new perceptual geography.

Luca Pozzi (Milan, 1983) constructs an interdisciplinary language fuelled by multi-messenger cosmology, theoretical physics and the heritage of art history, combining traditional media with state-of-the-art technological devices. Among the works: Supersymmetric Partner (Le nozze di Cana), Wilson Tour Carracci – Story of the Foundation of Rome, and the site-specific installation from the series Background Inside Platform through Palladio Influence, which makes even clearer the way in which Pozzi fuses architectural history and physical phenomena, and which was created specifically in Beijing as a reflection on the great Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, in parallel with the celebrations and exhibitions dedicated to Palladio in China, organised by the Embassy and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing.
