The exhibition “Enzo Cacciola / Vincenzo Mascia” forms part of the project “Developments in the Contemporary for the Italian Embassy and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing”, which promotes contemporary Italian art in China through a programme of artist residencies hosting invited artists in Beijing to create specific works in contact with the Chinese cultural fabric, displayed for an exhibition period at the premises of the Italian Embassy in China and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing, as well as in dedicated exhibitions organised and promoted by the Italy China Council Foundation Academy at Raffles City Beijing.
This first stage of the project presents to the Chinese public for the first time the works created specifically in Beijing by Enzo Cacciola, the last master of the historic Analytical Painting movement, and Vincenzo Mascia, a leading figure of the international Madì movement, whose work builds on the outcomes of programmed art with implications for sculptural design.
The residency programme and the exhibition are organised and promoted by the Italian Embassy in Beijing, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing and the Italy China Council Foundation Academy at Raffles City Beijing, on a project conceived and directed by the association Nuova Artemarea, chaired by Guicciardo Sassoli de' Bianchi Strozzi, with the collaboration in this first edition of Daniele Crippa, former director of the MuPa - Museo del Parco di Portofino, and co-curated by Ren Jingge, who then curated, together with the art critic Manuela Valentini, a larger second edition of residencies in autumn 2025.
