Developments in the Contemporary
Artist residencies, conferences, exhibitions for the Italian Embassy in China and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing

“Developments in the Contemporary” tells the story of a project conceived and directed by Nuova Artemarea on behalf of the Italian Embassy in Beijing and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing, in collaboration with the Italy China Council Foundation Academy and MuPa – Museo del Parco di Portofino. From July 2025 to July 2026, the project developed through residencies, conferences and exhibitions, involving Enzo Cacciola, Vincenzo Mascia, Davide Bramante, Luca Pozzi, Flavio Favelli and Daniele Sigalot. The project formed part of the celebrations of Andrea Palladio in China with "Chinese Voices on Palladio" at the Tsinghua University Art Museum: a contemporary reflection on Palladio's legacy, to which Pietro Ruffo, Matteo Basilé and Davide Sebastian contributed site-specific works, together with Bramante and Pozzi. In July 2026, "Memory and Future. Contemporary Italian Art", at the Beijing Guardian Art Center, brought together almost one hundred works of Italian art from the twentieth century to the present day, including those by the artists who took part in the residencies.
