The catalogue documents the third edition of the artist residency programme Developments in the Contemporary for the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, dedicated to the Italian artists Flavio Favelli and Daniele Sigalot, with works created specifically in Beijing and presented from 31 May to 29 June 2026 at the ICCF Academy Art Center, within Raffles City Beijing. Promoted by the Italian Ambassador to China Massimo Ambrosetti and by the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing Federico Roberto Antonelli, the project is curated by Nuova Artemarea ETS, chaired by Guicciardo Sassoli de’ Bianchi Strozzi, with exhibition curation by Manuela Valentini and Ren Jingge and co-organised by the Italy China Council Foundation. The two artists’ research revolves around the relationship between art and communication: Favelli reworks packaging, wrappings and visual references from the commercial world, turning them into tools for reflecting on everyday life and its meanings; Sigalot works mainly with stainless steel and aluminium to create pieces that evoke the lightness of paper, with content that invites reflection on social reality and on the relationship between the individual and the world.
