Light from Italy: from Fattori to Morandi
The catalogue of the exhibition Light from Italy: from Fattori to Morandi, published by Treccani, runs to almost 500 pages and is the result of three years of scholarly research devoted to the comparative study of Italian and Latvian art. The volume brings together contributions by Guicciardo Sassoli, Astrīda Rogule, Elena Marconi, Vanessa Gavioli and Aija Brasliņa, offering an in-depth exploration of the historical and artistic dialogue between the two countries. Published in three languages – Italian, Latvian and English – the catalogue is a wide-ranging editorial project and stands as a record of the research and cultural collaboration developed through the exhibition.
Presentation of the volume Light from Italy: from Fattori to Morandi (Treccani Libri d’Arte, 2026), catalogue of the exhibition held in Riga at the Latvian National Museum of Art in collaboration with the Gallerie degli Uffizi (5 July – 30 November 2025).
With an unprecedented approach, the exhibition project brings Latvian masters into dialogue with masterpieces from the collections of Palazzo Pitti, in an itinerary spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: from the plein air of the Macchiaioli to the synthesis of Giorgio Morandi.
The 500-page volume, in Italian, English and Latvian, was presented for the first time in Italy at the ADI Design Museum. Published by the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani and edited by Associazione Nuova Artemarea ETS together with the Gallerie degli Uffizi and the Latvian National Museum of Art, the catalogue brings together over one hundred scholarly entries and essays by Guicciardo Sassoli, Astrīda Rogule, Elena Marconi, Vanessa Gavioli and Aija Brasliņa.
