CATALOGUE: A Journey of Knowledge 传奇之旅 – “The Travels of Marco Polo” and Its Legacy between East and West 马可·波罗与丝绸之路上的世界 - Treccani

The catalogue published by Treccani accompanies the exhibition devoted to Marco Polo and to the fortune of “The Travels” as an instrument of knowledge and of relations between East and West. Through documents, manuscripts, works of art and evidence of material culture, the exhibition reconstructs the networks of exchange of goods, people, ideas and knowledge along the routes travelled by medieval voyagers. Particular attention is given to the role of Venice and to the circulation of geographical, cultural and scientific knowledge. The exhibition thus interprets Marco Polo’s journey not only as an individual experience, but as an emblematic moment in a wider process of encounter and interaction between civilisations. The catalogue documents the exhibition opened at the China World Art Museum in Beijing (26 July–24 November 2024) and later transferred to Chengdu and Hangzhou. The scientific curatorship is by Eugenio Burgio, Antonio Montefusco and Andrea Nanetti; the texts are by Burgio, Montefusco, Nanetti and Sassoli de’ Bianchi Strozzi.
